Tithi Pravesh
What it is
A Tithi Pravesh is the chart cast for the moment each month when the Moon returns to its natal tithi (its Moon-Sun longitudinal separation matches the natal value). Because tithis advance roughly 12° per day, the Moon returns to a given tithi-distance from the Sun about once every 30 days — making this a monthly lunar-return analogue.
It functions like a mini-varshaphal: the natal chart describes the lifetime; the varshaphal describes the year; the Tithi Pravesh describes the month.
How to find it
Features menu → 🌙 Tithi Pravesh. Pick a target year and month; KarmaWheel finds the matching tithi-moment within the closest 12° window and casts the chart for that exact time.
What it returns
For the target month, you get:
- The datetime (local) of the Tithi Pravesh
- The closest match in degrees (typically < 0.5° if the search found the exact moment, sometimes a few degrees in edge cases)
- The Lagna of the Tithi Pravesh chart
- All planet placements (sign, house, degree) for that moment
How to read it
The Tithi Pravesh chart is read like a monthly varshaphal:
- Lagna lord of the TP chart — the dominant theme of the month
- House occupations — which areas of life are most active
- Aspects to natal points — what natal placements receive activation
- Moon's tithi — the same as natal, by construction; what matters is which sign / nakshatra it falls in for this month
A Lagna of the TP chart in your natal 7th house emphasises relationships for the month. In your natal 10th, it's career. In your natal 6th, watch for health and obstacles.
Use case examples
- Choosing a personal goal for the month. Read the TP chart's Lagna and key planets; align the month's intentions with the themes the chart highlights.
- Forecasting health. If TP Saturn aspects natal 6th house strongly, expect chronic-condition flare-ups; preventive measures.
- Romance / relationship pulse. If TP Venus is in / aspecting the natal 7th, that month favours romantic encounters or partnership matters.
- Tracking a multi-month process. Cast TP charts for each month of a project; watch how the indicators evolve.
Limitations
- The search uses a 30-day window centred on the 15th of the target month. In rare edge cases (especially around month boundaries with unusual lunation cycles), the closest match may be 1-3° off. KarmaWheel reports the actual mismatch so you know.
- The TP chart inherits the birth location of your natal chart by default. If you've moved cities, you may want to recompute for your current residence to read the chart for where you actually are during the month.
Background
Tithi Pravesh was popularised in modern Vedic practice by K. N. Rao as a refinement of varshaphal — instead of using only the solar-return moment to gauge a year's themes, repeat the exercise monthly with the lunar-return.
The approach mirrors Western "lunar return" practice but uses the tithi (Moon-Sun separation) rather than the Moon's longitude alone — making it more attuned to the Indian sidereal-month rhythm.
