Tajaka Sahams

What they are

In the Tajaka system (the Indo-Persian annual-chart tradition), Sahams are sensitive points computed from arithmetic relationships between planet longitudes and the ascendant. They are the Indian analogue of the Hellenistic / Arabic Lots. Each Saham points to the active locus of a specific life-matter in the chart — like a sensitive co-significator.

For example, the Vivaha (Marriage) Saham = Venus + Saturn − Asc. Wherever this point falls, that's the seventh-house energy's active location for the year. Planets, transits, and dasha lords that contact the Saham activate marriage matters.

How to read them

For each Saham:

  1. Identify its house (count from the natal Lagna or the varshaphal Lagna depending on which chart's Sahams you computed).
  2. Note the sign-lord of that house — it becomes the Saham-lord.
  3. Read the dispositor. Where does that lord sit? Does it sit well, badly, in dignity?
  4. Watch for transits. When a planet (especially the Saham-lord itself or Jupiter, Saturn) transits the Saham, the matter activates.

For the Vivaha Saham, classical practice says:

  • A benefic transit over Vivaha promises marriage (or strengthening of the existing one)
  • A malefic transit creates friction or delay
  • Within the year, the dasha-bhukti during which a benefic transits Vivaha is the strongest single window

The Tajaka context

Sahams are most commonly used in the Varshaphal (annual chart), not the natal. Compute them from the solar-return chart at the beginning of the year and they reveal which life-matter is most "loaded" during that year.

KarmaWheel computes them from whichever chart-input you provide — natal by default, or you can re-enter the varshaphal moment for the year you're interested in.

Caveats

  • Saham formulas vary slightly between texts; some use diurnal / nocturnal alternates. KarmaWheel uses the most widespread version for each one.
  • Several Sahams listed have alternative formulas in the literature — the table includes both versions where relevant (e.g. "Yashas (alt)").
  • This is the most Tajaka-specific of the new features. If you're not familiar with the Tajaka tradition, start with the Varshaphal feature first.
