Specialty Timing

What it does

Specialty Timing scans every Vimshottari Maha/Antar dasha period in the next 30 years of your life and scores it against the houses, karakas, and natural significators that govern a particular life event. You pick the event from a tab; KarmaWheel returns a ranked list of windows, with the strongest periods highlighted, and an explanation of why each window scores high.

How to find it

Features menu → 🎯 Specialty Timing. You need a calculated chart open first.

The seven event types

Event What activates it (primary)
Marriage 7th lord, Venus, Darakaraka. Jupiter for women. 2nd, 11th, 5th lords secondary.
Childbirth 5th lord, Jupiter, Putrakaraka. 9th, 2nd, 11th secondary.
Career launch 10th lord, Amatyakaraka, Sun (govt), Saturn (service), Mars (action), Mercury (commerce).
Foreign travel 12th lord, 9th lord, Rahu, Moon. 3rd lord for short trips.
Property 4th lord, Mars (real estate), Saturn (foundations), Venus (luxury homes).
Vehicle 4th lord, Venus (the universal karaka of vehicles), Mars for sporty vehicles.
Litigation 6th lord (litigation/debts), 8th lord (sudden conflict), Mars, Saturn.

How the score is computed

For every Maha/Antar period (about 200-300 periods over 30 years):

Condition +/- score
Mahadasha lord is in the activator set +3
Antardasha lord is in the activator set +3
Antardasha lord is natally placed in a relevant house +2
Mahadasha lord is natally placed in a relevant house +1
Mahadasha lord is in the weakener set −2
Antardasha lord is in the weakener set −2

Windows with score ≤ 0 are dropped. The remaining list is sorted best-first. The current Maha/Antar (if it's in the list) is shown in a gold-bordered "⭐ CURRENT WINDOW" callout above the rest.

How to read the output

  • Top of the list — strongest activator overlap; usually 6-10 of these in a 30-year horizon.
  • Reasons line — plain-English breakdown so you can see which lord activated the window. E.g. for marriage: "Ve (MD) activates marriage; 7L Mars in 7H natally; Jupiter (AD) activates" tells you Venus's mahadasha plus Jupiter antardasha is hitting Venus and the 7th lord — strong window.
  • Current window — if the present moment is inside one of the ranked windows, that period is highlighted in gold.

What this technique cannot do

Specialty Timing scores the dashas. It does not consider transits, which are the second timing layer that classical astrologers use. After identifying a strong dasha window, follow up in the Transits & Hits feature to confirm whether key transits (especially Jupiter for marriage/childbirth, Saturn for career, Mars for property) reinforce the period.

It also does not look at the navamsha (D9), where 7th-house and karaka strength for marriage are confirmed. Use the chart-view's D9 panel for that secondary check.

Classical sources

The activator-house and karaka choices follow: - Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS), chapters on house lordship and naisargika karakas - Phaladeepika, especially chapters 12 (career) and 6 (royal yogas that imply marriage/career strength) - Standard 20th-century elaboration (B.V. Raman, K.N. Rao) on Amatyakaraka and Darakaraka as event-significators

Tips

  • For marriage, also consult the chart's 7th house in the navamsha (D9), and look at Jupiter's transits to the 7th lord, the natal Moon, and the Darakaraka.
  • For childbirth, the Saptamsha (D7) chart is the classical primary indicator; this Specialty Timing tool flags windows when the D1 and dasha indicators line up — re-check D7 for ratification.
  • For career, the strongest indicator beyond the dasha is the 10th lord's transit through trinal houses to itself, plus a Saturn dasha-bhukti for slow promotions, or a Sun/Jupiter combo for visibility-based moves.
