Push Notifications — Daily Reminders for Practice
KarmaWheel can send you push notifications for several Vedic-relevant events: morning Gayatri reminders, the three Sandhya windows, daily Panchang summary, Holy Day eves, Moon phases, and major Transit Alerts to your chart.
These reminders integrate Vedic timing into your daily life without requiring you to constantly check the app. Used well, they support a more rhythm-aligned daily practice.
How to enable
Step 1: install the PWA (mobile)
Push notifications on iPhone require KarmaWheel installed as a PWA — see Installing KarmaWheel on Your Phone.
On Android, the browser tab can also send push, but installing as a PWA is recommended.
On desktop, push works directly from the browser tab.
Step 2: turn on the categories
Open KarmaWheel → Settings → Push Notifications section.
You'll see toggles for:
- Gayatri Mantra Reminders — three pings a day at sunrise, noon, sunset
- Sandhya — the three transition windows (dawn, noon, dusk) for prayer/meditation
- Daily Panchanga — morning summary of today's tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana
- Holy Days — evening before each major Vedic / Hindu holy day
- Moon Events — full moon, new moon, eclipses
- Transit Alerts — major incoming transits to your chart (Saturn / Jupiter / Rahu / Ketu over sensitive points)
Toggle the ones you want. Each is independently configurable.
Step 3: grant permission
When you toggle the first one, your phone or browser asks for notification permission. Tap Allow. KarmaWheel registers your device with the push service.
If you accidentally tap Block, you'll need to change the system-level notification setting (Phone Settings → Notifications → KarmaWheel → Allow).
Each notification type in detail
Gayatri Mantra Reminders
Three notifications a day: - Sunrise — at your local sunrise time - Solar Noon — at the moment the sun crosses your local meridian - Sunset — at your local sunset time
Each notification suggests reciting Gayatri Mantra (or your chosen mantra) during the auspicious window. The notification includes the Sanskrit and a Roman transliteration of the mantra in case you'd like to recite from your phone.
Best for: serious sadhakas or anyone wanting to anchor their day around Vedic timing.
Sandhya
Same timing as Gayatri Mantra (sunrise, noon, sunset) but framed for general meditation / prayer / contemplation rather than a specific mantra. Useful if you have your own practice.
Daily Panchanga
A morning notification at your chosen time (default: 6 AM local) summarizing:
- Today's tithi (and Paksha)
- Today's nakshatra
- Today's yoga
- Today's karana
- Today's vara (weekday)
- Any holy day flag
- Auspicious / inauspicious windows for today
Best for: starting the day with awareness of Vedic timing.
Holy Days
Evening before each major holy day, you get a heads-up:
- "Tomorrow is Ekadashi (Krishna Paksha)"
- "Tomorrow is Janmashtami"
- "Tomorrow is Mahashivaratri"
Includes a brief description of what the holy day represents and any traditional observances (fasting, mantra recitation, particular deities).
Best for: anyone wanting to align their practice with the Vedic calendar.
Moon Events
Notifications for:
- Full moon (Purnima) — typically auspicious
- New moon (Amavasya) — pitri rites
- Solar eclipse / lunar eclipse — significant astrologically and traditionally
Best for: people who run their lives by the lunar cycle.
Transit Alerts
The most personalized: KarmaWheel watches the slow planets (Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu, Ketu) and notifies you when they're about to make a major contact with your natal chart:
- Saturn entering your 12th house (Sade Sati starting)
- Jupiter making a return (12-year cycle)
- Rahu / Ketu changing signs across your chart
- Saturn aspecting your natal Sun / Moon
- And several other major-impact transits
These notifications come a day or two before the actual transit, so you have time to prepare.
Best for: anyone using KarmaWheel as a daily life-guidance tool.
Customizing timing
Settings allow:
- Time-of-day customization for the daily Panchanga notification
- Holy days lead time — get pinged 1, 2, or 3 days ahead
- Quiet hours — suppress notifications between specified hours
Troubleshooting
"I'm not getting any notifications"
Check:
- KarmaWheel has notification permission at the OS level (Settings → Notifications → KarmaWheel → Allow)
- The category toggle is ON in KarmaWheel Settings
- Your phone isn't in Do Not Disturb / Focus mode
- You're signed in to the same KarmaWheel account on this device
If still nothing arrives within 24 hours of enabling, email [email protected].
"I'm getting too many notifications"
Reduce by:
- Turning off categories you don't actually use
- Setting wider quiet hours
- For Transit Alerts: adjust the alert sensitivity in Settings (only major transits, vs. all transits)
"I want notifications on multiple devices"
Sign in to KarmaWheel on each device and enable push on each. Each device receives notifications independently.
